Elect Linda S. Bolon For Columbiana County Treasurer
BIOGRAPHY


Linda S. Bolon (D-Columbiana) served the people of Columbiana County for six years as County Treasurer and for four years as State Representative in the 127th and 128th General Assemblies. Currently, she is a small business owner and Chief Fiscal Officer of Capitol Development, Ltd., a consulting and energy Resource Company specializing in the needs of the emerging oil and gas industry within Northeast Ohio.
 
Mrs. Bolon is a graduate of East Palestine High School and was inducted into the East Palestine High School Hall of Fame. She is a graduate of Columbus University, where she majored in secretarial sciences and business administration. While there she received the special secretarial award for her representation of Ohio colleges in Washington DC as a representative for the Ohio Collegiate Association on World Affairs. She attended Kent State University, majoring in accounting and has received continuing education from the Ohio State University, the Ohio Auditor of State and the Ohio Treasurer of State. She is a former Certified Fraud Examiner with the National Association of Fraud Examiners and a former Certified Government Financial Manager with the Association of Government Accountants (AGA).
 
Her dedication to education has earned Mrs. Bolon a rare honor. The Ohio Treasurer honors an elite group of public funds managers who maintain the highest level of professionalism by developing one’s educational background and professional skills beyond what is required by law. While serving as County Treasurer, Mrs. Bolon was one of six managers to receive this honor two years in a row.
 
Mrs. Bolon learned at an early age the importance of hard work and the problems associated with running a small business. She worked with her father, Herbert Bush, at the family business, Bush Heating Company. Bolon also worked in the programming department for WKBN, Channel 27, and as a bookkeeper for a CPA firm and a steel industry supplier.
 
Her experience in private industry proved helpful in applying strong business practices as she defined her career in public service. She served as Treasurer for East Palestine City Schools and Edison Local Schools, and Fiscal Officer for the Columbiana Public Library.

The call to statewide service led her to a 14-year career as an auditor and audit manager for the Ohio Auditor of State. While there she gained governmental knowledge auditing counties, townships, cities, villages, schools, libraries, hospitals and universities. She also conducted financial forecasts for schools facing fiscal emergency and then moved on to fraud auditing and investigations where she worked with the FBI, receiving several commendations for her work on a special fraud investigation.

She was then elected to two terms on East Palestine City Council. Bolon was then appointed to the position of Columbiana County Treasurer in 1999 and voters elected her to two additional terms. She was later elected to the position of State Representative where she completed two terms.

Former Representative Bolon also served as a member of the Ohio House leadership team as the Assistant Majority Whip. She was elected by all members of the House and was responsible for assisting the Majority Whip in monitoring legislation and securing votes for legislation introduced on the floor.

While serving in the House, Mrs. Bolon served on numerous committees and boards. She was appointed by the Speaker of the House to serve as Vice Chairman of the powerful House Finance and Appropriations Committee. She also served as Chairman of the House Health and Human Services Subcommittee, and as Chairman of the Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee.

She served as a member of the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, Transportation and Justice Committee, Criminal Justice Committee, Ways and Means Committee, Healthcare Access and Affordability Committee, Alternative Energy Committee and as a member of the Joint Legislative Ethics Committee. Mrs. Bolon also served on the Ohio Hospital Advisory Board, and the Ohio Unemployment Compensation Board.

During the 128th General Assembly Former Representative Bolon was the primary sponsor of seven bills and the joint sponsor of House Bill 414 which provided the enabling language for the Livestock Care Standards Boards.
 
Additionally, she was named Legislator of the Year and received awards from the Ohio Association of County
Behavioral Health Authorities and the Ohio Alliance of Recovery Providers.

Mrs. Bolon and her husband Tom have been married for 44 years. They have two daughters and two granddaughters. The Bolon’s had been lifelong residents of East Palestine but recently moved to Columbiana to be closer to their grandchildren.

While growing up, Mrs. Bolon attended the Centenary United Methodist Church in East Palestine. She and her husband are currently members of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in East Palestine.
 
Mrs. Bolon is or has been a member of the Association of Government Accountants, the National Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, the National Rifle Association, the Ohio Buckeye Firearms Association, the Wild Turkey Association, the Beavercreek Wildlife Association, the Ohio Farm Bureau, an associate member of the Columbiana County Township Association, the League of Women Voters, the Ohio Business and Professional Women’s Association, the Columbiana County Humane Society, and the Cleveland Adoption Network Policy Board.  She has also served as Treasurer for nine years for the Columbiana County Democratic Party, Treasurer of the Ohio House Democratic Women’s Caucus and Treasurer of Leadership Columbiana County.
